Join us for an evening exploring the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence in both language and creativity. We’ll dive into how AI is unlocking the richness of African languages, addressing biases in language models, and fostering cultural connection through emotion analysis in music. Then, we’ll shift focus to the rise of Generative AI, which is rapidly replacing human effort across fields like text, art, and avatars. Together, these talks will challenge us to consider the opportunities and ethical questions AI presents, and what it means for the future of humanity in a world increa…

Breaking Bias and Unlocking Hidden Potential Where AI Meets African Languages

Oyinkansola (KKC) Onwuchekwa (PhD Researcher)
Artificial Intelligence is transforming how we understand and interact with languages and cultures worldwide. My research explores the intersection of AI and African languages like Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa, revealing their untapped richness and contributions to global technology. I address biases in large language models (LLMs), by aiming to ensure inclusivity and fairness in AI systems while highlighting how these models can decode emotional expression in music and bridge cultural divides. This talk will showcase the groundbreaking potential of multilingual AI to uplift low-resource languages, amplify their representation, and inspire innovative applications in emotion analysis, cultural preservation, and beyond.

From text to images, from music to interactive avatars, they have the potential to disrupt and replace work that humans currently do. Should we let that happen? Can we stop it? What is the point of being human?
