Join us for an exciting night where we put the 'AI' in br-AI-ns! Explore the fascinating intersection of artificial intelligence and neuroscience, from brain-inspired AI to consciousness. Together, we'll uncover the deep connections between AI and the human brain.
“I did it! – Did you?”
Dr Hamed Ghane
(Research Associate, University of Glasgow)
Can we feel responsible for something—even if we didn’t do it? This talk dives into the brain’s “point of no return,” when intention turns into action in the brain before you even move. Using brain-computer interfaces and AI, we ask: who’s really in charge—you or the machine? Every voluntary action involves two key experiences: intention (often linked to free will) and the sense of agency. While free will gets all the attention, we’ll shine a light on the overlooked side—sense of agency—and why it matters in a world of smart tech and extended selves.

The Carrot And The Stick: Are Rewards or Punishments More Useful for Learning?
Dr Sean Westwood
(Postdoctoral Researcher, University of Glasgow)
When making choices in our day-to-day lives, we are constantly internalising feedback from our environment. Both good and bad outcomes from our decisions will help us make better choices in the future. But does the brain process these two types of outcome in the same way? If not, can we use these differences to help optimise decision making? With the help of neuroimaging and machine learning...maybe!
