Climate change affects us all—but not equally. Join us to explore its impact from two powerful perspectives. First, discover how children around the world are especially vulnerable to our changing climate, and how new research is helping protect those most at risk. Then, journey closer to home as we explore how the move to net zero will reshape the way we live—from how we heat our homes to how we get around. Using powerful visual maps, we’ll reveal what climate action means for the future of Edinburgh and South East Scotland.
The impact of climate change on children
Dr Sian Henley
(Reader in Marine Science)
Climate change affects children’s health, wellbeing and socio-economic status differently to adults, yet they are rarely considered separately. We are using the latest climate projections to assess the exposure of children to environmental hazards and examine how vulnerable young people are to climate change. This work provides a unique insight into children’s vulnerability under different climate change scenarios, allowing policy-makers, researchers and organisations to focus their efforts on the most vulnerable populations of children as well as identifying and informing suitable directions for future research, policy and practice.

Spatial Storytelling to Drive Climate Action
Kira Myers
(Member of the Climate Partnerships team at the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute)
What does net zero mean for the infrastructure around us? From how we heat our homes to how we move around, the next steps in climate change action will impact the places in which we live. This talk will take a deep dive into the Climate Action Map to see what’s coming for Edinburgh and South East Scotland as we move towards a net zero future. We’ll use maps to visually tell the story of the current state of infrastructure and pathways for the future of heat, transport and adaptation.
