Join us for an evening at the cutting edge of medical science. Sonia Bains will share how artificial intelligence and microelectronics are transforming the way we monitor health and understand behaviour, offering new tools to tackle complex scientific questions. Then meet The Gut Florists, a team from the University of Oxford studying the trillions of microbes that live in our gut. Discover how these tiny organisms interact with the immune system, and what happens when that balance is disrupted. From data to digestion, this is modern medicine in action.

Is the Answer Really 42? Harnessing the power AI and Big Data to answer some of life’s simple questions.

Sonia Bains (Team leader, Mary Lyon Centre, MRC Harwell)

The gut florists: gardening the thriving community of microbes in our gut

Avery Robinson (Postdoctoral researchers, Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford)

Within each of us lies a bustling community of microorganisms called the microbiome which lives alongside and communicates with our immune system to maintain health. But what happens when this careful symbiotic balance is disturbed? The Gut Florists, a group of microbiome researchers from the University of Oxford delve into how our microbiomes and immune systems communicate, and how imbalances in the gut microbiome might play a role in inflammatory disease.
