Understanding the code to tackle medical problems

Dr Simon Richardson (Reader of Drug Delivery and Membrane Trafficking)
Like the digital world, life is run by code - not 0s and 1s, but 4 shapes known as A, T, G and C. This code's execution can be subtle, like a plant extending a root or a cow giving birth. Life code can be edited to cure diseases in future generations. However, many barriers evolved to protect your body must be crossed. With societal good and money at stake, many are working towards this end. Before mastering this language, we should consider its limits and governance. Drugs editing genetic code like Casgevy are already here.

Grain To Glass

Abhishek Banik (Distillery Manager, Copper Rivet)
Will your favourite beer make your favourite whisky?

At Copper Rivet Distillery we have been making our grain-to-glass spirits since 2016, and is home for our Dockyard Gin, Vela Vodka and Masthouse Whisky.

We take a brewer’s approach to create flavour for our spirits and Whiskies. Join the production team at Copper Rivet for Pint of Science talk to explore how brewing parameters like grain selection, yeast, mashing techniques effects the flavours of beer and Whisky.
