A tasty evening on cooking up bioengineered meat, and uncovering the sweet treats detected by the James Webb Space Telescope
Red Monsters, UFOs and Little Red Dots
Professor Stijn Wuyts
(Professor, University of Bath)
A new telescope is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. Already in its first few years of operation, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has thrown us a couple of curveballs: discoveries of populations of objects in the early Universe that sent theorists of galaxy formation back to the drawing board. In this talk I will zoom in on three of these curious source populations, how we discovered them, and why they are so puzzling.

Can We Eat Meat and Save the Planet?
Lucy Wilkinson
(PhD student, University of Bath)
Love animals, care about the environment, but can't resist a juicy steak? You're not alone. But is it possible to be both an animal lover and a meat-eater without wrecking the planet? The answer is yes! With traditional farming contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity loss, we either need a new planet or a new plan. Enter cultivated meat: muscle and fat grown in a bioreactor instead of an animal. It may sound like sci-fi, but this could be the future of food. After all, most of your meat already comes from a factory. Join us to learn the juicy details of cultivated meat!
