Come learn how you can discover Alan Turing's theory of patterns in nature from your own home, and how African diasporas have supercharged education!
Black African Love (The Diaspora Contributions)
Dr Christopher Jones
(Vice Principal of St Aidan's College)
There’s been a lot of debate about how Black Africans have contributed to the world, especially in the past century. This is because a lot of these contributions by Black Africans challenge the usual stereotypes and misconceptions people have about Black Africans. I have created a framework called ‘Flippin’ the Script’ to push back against these harmful ideas. It’s a framework that promotes healing, empowerment, and love, helping to shift the conversation and create space for everyone’s voice. In the talk, we will discuss how African diasporas have played a big role in making the world more inclusive, especially in education, for future generations.

Slime Moulds, Fingerprints and Leopard Spots: Alan Turing's Theory of Patterns in Nature
Dr Andrew Krause
(Associate Professor in Applied Mathematics)
Luci Mullen
(PhD Student)
Alan Turing, famous for his groundbreaking work in computers, came up with an amazing theory about where patterns in nature, e.g. spots on animals, come from. Decades later, Turing’s ideas have led to all kinds of discoveries. These mathematical models are difficult-to-solve equations, which used to require supercomputers to simulate. Today, thanks to tools like VisualPDE.com, anyone can explore these fascinating mathematical patterns and create beautiful designs—just by playing with them! We'll give a quick tour through some of these ideas and show you how to explore these patterns yourself.
