Join us for an exciting evening uncovering the world of biofilms—microbial communities causing chronic infections, antibiotic resistance, and contamination. Learn about cutting-edge, nature-inspired solutions to control infections in medical devices, and discover how biofilms could even help clean up the environment. Get your tickets now!
Biofilms: From Helpful Habitats to Healthcare Headaches
Joshua Horton
(PhD Student)
Biofilms are formed when microbes group together, sit on a surface, and produce all sorts of substances to protect themselves from the threats around them. Whilst this benefits the microbes, it’s a major headache when they form where us humans don’t want them; biofilms can cause infections that keep coming back or stick to surfaces in the food production industry which are then difficult to get rid of. Join me as we explore these fascinating structures, their resilience, and the issues they cause, while also highlighting the potential benefits that they offer for cleaning up our environment.

Craft & Quiz!

Advances in Surface Technology for a Healthier Future
Dr Dannielle Cox-Pridmore
(Senior Research Associate)
Bacteria attach to surfaces, forming biofilms—highly organised communities that drive chronic infections, antibiotic resistance, equipment fouling, corrosion, and contamination. With a staggering £4 trillion global impact, there is a need for innovative solutions. Join us to explore cutting-edge, nature-inspired antibacterial surfaces to revolutionise infection control in medical devices and healthcare.
