What is one drink that you can’t imagine life without? There’s a good chance you’ve answered with tea or coffee. Caffeine, the magical molecule in these drinks, has been consumed for centuries. Over 2 billion cups of coffee are drunk globally every single day, yet how much do you actually know about caffeine? Let’s find out! How do dinosaurs catch fish?
Dr Niel Gostling
(Lecturer in Evolution and Paleobiology)
Dinosaurs are terrestrial vertebrates that dominated the land between 220 and 66 million years ago. They inhabited every conceivable niche while ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs ruled the waters. Carnivores eating herbivores, herbivores eating plants. However, 125-135 million years ago, a new group of carnivorous theropod appeared - the Spinosaurs. Large fish-eating dinosaurs. Taking advantage of a novel food source is no easy task. How did they start exploiting the aquatic habitat and eating fish? Looking at the senses of 2 spinosaurs, Baryonyx and Ceratosuchops, along with biomechanics, we will answer that question.
