New therapies are revolutionising treatment for difficult diseases, including cancer and diabetes. But how are these treatments discovered? How are they tested? And how are they ultimately produced for patients? Come and join us for an evening of talks describing new research approaches for discovering novel cancer drugs and the industrial production pathway that gets these from the research bench into the clinic.

The Antibody Apprentice: My Journey in DIY Drug Design
Glen Watt
(PhD Researcher, Glasgow Caledonian University)
Antibodies aren’t just for fighting colds—they can be powerful medicines too! From targeting cancer to calming the immune system, monoclonal antibodies are saving lives worldwide. But how are they made, and what makes them work? In this talk, I’ll share how these therapies are designed and developed, and dive into my own PhD research where I’m building a brand-new antibody therapy from scratch. Come find out what it takes to turn science into a life-changing treatment!

The Antifungal Pipeline - One Health and Anti-Microbial Resistance
Prof Gordon Ramage
(Professor of Infection Prevention & Control, Glasgow Caledonian University)
This presentation will highlight the importance of fungi across the different sectors (the one health approach). Fungal disease impacts human, animal and crop health. With attempts to manage and control fungi, we are increasingly using antifungal compounds that cross these sectors, and this is leading to resistance. Prof Ramage is an international expert in fungal infections, and he will use this presentation to highlight the most important advances in the development of new antifungal agents.
Monoclonal Antibody Production and Testing
Jamie Sroka
(Global Technical Services Team Lead, Merck CTS)
A behind-the-scenes look at monoclonal antibody (mAb) production and the critical role Merck CTS plays in bringing these therapies to life. From early research to clinical trials and commercial launch, we’ll explore the science and services that support every stage of development. If you're curious about biotech, drug development, or how science becomes medicine, come discover how monoclonal antibodies are shaping the future of healthcare.
